The Prague tram system (tramvaje in czech) like the metro system is efficient, well maintained and clean. Prague tram system is the largest tram system in the Czech Republic with 35 lines – 26 daytime tram lines (numbered 1 to 26) and 9 night trams (numbered 51 to 59) plus an historical tram, 140 kilometers of track, over 900 trams and total route length of 560 km. Tram system transports every year about 330 million people.

Tram is usually the quickest way to travel short distances. Combining it with metro and map is vital to your survival in Prague. Using tram you can reach to the downtown Prague hotels and places, where the buses do not enter. To find metro you just need to see tram stop which is marked with the sign =M= that means there is the possibility to get out and continue with the metro transport.
Prague trams operate 24 hours per day. Tram lines in Prague are denoted by numbers and cover all main places in Prague. Day trams (numbered 1 to 26) operate from 04:30 till midnight. Popular Prague tram lines run every 3 minutes during peak hours. The other tram routes during the week run about every 8-10 minutes and every 15 minutes at weekends. A nighttime tram service (numbered 51 to 59) operates from 00:30 till 04:30. Trams cover most areas of the city and run every 30 minutes and have the central transfer point is the tram stop “Lazarska”.

Nostalgic line No 91 is a historical tram and operates from 12.00 to 18.00 from April to November every weekend and national holidays in Czech Republic. It has the following route: Vozovna Stresovice – Prazsky hrad – Malostranska – Malostranske namesti – Narodni trida – Vaclavske namesti – Masarykovo nadrazi – Strossmayerovo nadrazi – Vystaviste.
There are old and new trams in Prague that recently have been introduced. Older trams have 1 or 2 carriages and the newer trams have 1 long carriage. The current T14 new tram was designed by Porsche and built by Skoda, however it is not proving to be as popular as had been hoped. New and some of the older trams also have heated seats in winter, but no air conditioner in summer.

You can buy the tickets in the automatic machines or in any tobacco store. Other option is to buy the tickets by SMS. You just need to send DPT as a text in sms to the number 902 06 26 and during two minutes you will get an electronic ticket to your mobile phone in the form of SMS.
