With all the great food in Prague, fantastic restaurants, cafes and bars with great service sometimes you may not have time and just want to “grab a quick bite”. Westernization of the fast food industry has already happened with McDonalds, KFC and even Subway already here but of course Prague offers other great fast food locations too. Slices of pizza and kebabs prepared very fast are also a popular treat around town and can be had 24hrs at the bottom of Wenceslas Square.

There are now 10 branches of McDonalds in Prague with the most popular in Wenceslas Square and other strategically placed on every major road going into the city. There are plans for 40 KFC outlets in the Czech Republic and other major fast-food chains entered the Czech market can be found in Prague. Advantage of fast food is it is open very late, perfect for a post-drinking snack.

The classical McDonald’s and KFC restaurants can be found everywhere, from the airport to the very centre of the city. They have very good locations right at one of the busiest tram stops in Prague, and opposite a KFC (KFC were there first!), McDonalds can often be packed at peak times. There is more places upstairs though.

In Prague, Ronald McDonald takes a backseat to Colonel Sanders whose portrait we can see in the KFC logo, the inventor of a special mix which KFC uses who appears to be, well, everywhere. There are 25 KFC restaurants in Prague.

Other famous fast food chain is Subway. First Subway in Czech republic opened in Mala Strana in 2003. It offers fresh and healthy sandwiches every day and delivery of minimum order of 400 Kc every day between 8.00 AM and 10 PM with discount 15% on all pick up party orders.

Spak is considered to be a better option than most of the other home-grown food-court options. Spak’s entered the Czech market in 1991. Pasta and Pizza Co lack a little of the marketing that makes a fast-food chain flourish. Other fast food chains like Big Food, Patatas, Little Caesar’s, Canadian chain, Harvey’s, Dunkin’ Donuts opened in Prague, but don’t have big share in the market.

Prague is also targeted by newcomers such as German Nordsee specializing in fish products, or Panda Express. Mondo Pizza entered Czech market of fast food with dramatic results. Asian bistros such as Li Wu and Chinese restaurants also have a lot of customers.

The boom the fast food industry that Prague experienced is not only by the foreign chains. Czech baguette maker Crocodile has big market share. However, some other famous names are not successful in Prague. For example, Burger King failed when opened a restaurant in the new terminal of Prague Airport Ruzyne.
